Delaware Bay Fishing Report 10-16-12

Brooklawn

A few weakfish and blues and lots of spots remained in the bay, said Rick from Big Timber Bait & Tackle. But weaks were only reported from the surf, not boats. Big white perch swam the upper bay toward Ship John Light and Cohansey River. Small striped bass, no big yet, were heard about that were caught. Weather or winds kept news scarce from the ocean. Small blues schooled the ocean close to shore from Sea Isle City to the south. Weather kept boaters from sailing offshore for tuna on most days. Nobody was known to head out. Big Timber stocks bait and tackle for fishing on all waters from fresh to offshore.

Fortescue

A few boaters sailed south on the bay, fishing for kingfish and blues, said Capt. Howard from the party boat Salt Talk. Weakfish seemed to depart the waters that held there previously. One of the Fortescue party boats usually fishes for blackfish and small black drum at the lighthouses this time of year. But nothing was heard about whether the vessel got out. The Salt Talk sailed on no trips, and will fish for striped bass if the migration arrives this season. Anglers caught and released loads of small stripers 12 to 15 inches, sometimes 20 inches, in Fortescue Creek. Howard heard about no stripers gathered in the bay yet. Waters probably needed to cool, and the temps were dropping. The creek was 59.8 degrees Sunday morning. Charters are available, and open-boat trips will resume if the striper run comes in.
